MESSAGE BOARD CRIME
In the “Chris Carson Era Begins” thread several posters irresponsibly implied that said player might be really good due to GA’s recruitment of him, and even dared to speculate that he might have a running style similar to several good/great players.
I would like to take this moment to speak on behalf of the other sensible posters who were appalled by this inexcusably hazardous labeling of players, and follow with a proposal.
ACKNOWLEDGING THE DANGER
We all know college athletes are impressionable with perilously fragile confidence. They cannot endure fans speculating on their skill level in a message board forum that they will never read. When you type in this forum, cosmic forces align and invade their craniums to inflate or destroy their egos, potentially stunting their growth, diminishing their work ethic, making them susceptible to injury, and potentially ruining their lives. Even more dangerously, it could lead other posters to premature excitement about the upcoming season and incorrectly believing the players will excel.
PROPOSAL
Henceforth for the safety of our OSU Athletic Programs we should refrain from:
-comparing any prospect, recruit or player lacking at least 2 years of starting experience to any current or former player at any level of sports
-even generally speculating about whether any such player could be good
CAVEAT
Unless of course you can provide 8 ½” x 11” edge bound white papers definitively proving the player’s career performance through use of scientific data reviewed and approved in the future by NASA,USDA, NCAA, NAACP, CIA, and QB1 –MMFR.
A SAFER MESSSAGE BOARD
Be considerate. This is a message board, and everything you do here is critical to the success of our athletic programs. This is no place to unfairly compare student athletes to NFL greats.
I seek your help to do the right thing and ratify new and improved message board guidelines that limit all posts to the following acceptable and safe topics:
1. Stating that OSU exists
2. Stating that we have a team in a given sport
3. Posting the current roster for a given sport
4. Posting the commitment list for a given sport
5. Posting the official OSU press release depth chart
6. Talking about the Thunder or the Rangers
Be fair and follow these rules. This should make for some exhilarating summertime message board discussion and simultaneously protect our beloved Alma Mater from the perils of “over hype”.
REMEMBER:
Only YOU can prevent DUMPSTER FIRES!
(I don’t always post in the Corral, but when I do, I prefer blue font.)
