But here is something that I think needs to be put out there regarding the talent on this team:
-DZ and Lindy are not good D1 players. Yes, they can both hit some shots, but what else can they do? Honestly, someone tell me what either one of them can do besides shoot? I don’t mean to knock kids giving heart but this is a talent discussion. Basketball is so much more than hitting occasional shots. DZ’s shot selection tonight was very bad. The one that hit the top of the backboard when we need a good shot the most sums up what we have been the past 3-4 years. Those two have been the same player since they stepped on campus and it hasn’t been great or gotten better. They have each had moments, but when all you are is a shooter eventually that catches up with you. Neither one of them can play any sort of the defense needed at this level. It’s very bad and is a huge reason we are what we are. It can’t be overlooked in a simple sentence or message on the board. It’s as if we are playing defense 3 vs. 5.....maybe 3.5 vs. 5. But if you can’t man up because you don’t trust 2 of your players(starters) to play defense that is a huge problem.
So we got excited about a good recruiting class that would join a solid player in Cam and two guys who weren’t any better than the occasional shooters and thought this season would be great? This senior class has been cloaked in losing so the leadership wasn’t going to be there.
We lost what arguably was going to be our best freshman(and I’d agree the drama in the off season needs to stop) but still that was a big loss.
The Boone’s should have probably redshirted.....although Kalib is going to be very good. I’d argue that he may be our best player now. Tells you where we are at. I think Keylan will be fine also, just young and need strength and experience.
Avery is going to be good but is forcing things and out of control. When the speed of the game slows down he will be very good.
The concerning thing is ICe and Yor have regressed. That’s not a good sign.
I agree The coaching has left a lot to be desired but our roster is severely lacking. We need way more talent.
I’ll give MB 1 more year to give this roster a talent influx. I also believe that there will be a talent upgrade with the graduation of DZ and Lindy and the welcoming of Cade and hopefully a few other guys who can step up in that class along with this last class growing both physically and in experience.
