I'm not a religious person, but I was raised in a very religious, very large family who were very musical and preformed every Sunday in front of our church.

That being said I really enjoy listening to beautifully recorded hymnals. Just for reference I also listen to hard rock, classic rock, country and blues.

Anyone else listen like I do.

You’re not alone. I have a hymnal from each of the churches I’ve been involved in, and I love to peck out a melody or chorus on the keyboard every now and then.

From a technical perspective - hymns are designed to be catchy, memorable, meaningful, and easy to sing/follow. There’s usually not a lot of syncopation, not too many minor chords, and usually are in pretty reasonable vocal ranges.

George jones and Jim neighbors gospels come to mind for cd's I shared with my grandma.

I know a lot of poeople who are barn yard baptists as in they listen to the old hoot owl on 99.5 while they are in the barn working on Sunday mornings.

Love my hymns but sadly they are gone by the wayside at churches across the country, pushed away to meh millennial worship tunes that are todays flavor in the age of smoke and strobe services.

These were put together last year by a guy I have met and chatted with numerous times along with some artists I really enjoy .. Not hymns but gospel tunes and some good stuff

When I lived in "Old Town" Alexandria, there was this little church, with an all African-American membership from what I could tell. On Sunday mornings, when weather permitted, I would walk down to the church and sit on the bench outside just to listen to the "joyful noise." Seriously, it sounded like the choir from the Blue's Brother's movie and that little church couldn't have set more than 80-100.

BTW, my oldest brother, also an atheist, requested that Amazing Grace be played at his funeral. His request for Bible Verse? Ecclesiastes 10:19.

Used to be a Holyroller church two doors down from my grandmother's house in Paul's Valley when I was a kid.

I used to do the same thing.
