There was a thread awhile back about classic cars that posters rebuilt or owned. I mentioned a gold '79 trans am we got from my FIL. Just had the engine overhauled and pretty much fixed everything else that wasn't working. Here's a pic @MegaPoke asked for.

Cool car. Any Pioneer TSX 6 speakers in the back window with an under the dash mounted cassette player?

That's the 10th Anniversary Edition isn't it? If I recall correctly, they called it the "Formula" and it came with a 400 ci engine (a modified/bored out 389.)

I don't think it's the 10 year. It's got a 403 Oldsmobile engine though.

Very nice F-body. Auto or 4 speed? WS6?

10th anniversary editions were silver and black with T-tops. To verify, you can check the VIN. the second letter on the TATA is an X.

Auto. Special handling package. Not sure what ws6 is?

WS6 option included a bigger rear swaybar, improved bushings, wider wheels, stiffer springs and shocks, a special steering box, subframe brace and 4-wheel disk brakes.

I'd recommend calling Pontiac Historical Services @ (586) 781-5164. You can give them your VIN # and you can purchase the complete documentation of the vehicle, including dealer order form, original invoice and also including a repro window sticker if you desire. It will show you every option that is on your car. the packet also comes with complete production number information, so you can see how many of your exact car were built, and what all possible options were.

http://www.phs-online.com/ is the website, but I recommend calling them for your first order.

This is all from official Pontiac records. Worth every penny. They have every record for every Pontiac built from the late 50's until the early 90's.

This is sweet, thank you!

I'm 99% sure it's the WS6 because it has all of that. I have the window sticker.

No problem .. give me a shout if you need any help with resources or such. I have been an F-body freak for a long time.

Jim Mattison really saved the day for Poncho owners. Back in the late 70;s, Pontiac was going to throw away all their old, no longer needed records, just like all the other makers already had done. Jim worked for Pontiac at the time, saw what long term value they would have for collectors, and asked if he could have them. they said yes, and he formed PHS. He continued to take all their old information as the years went on. Invaluable resource for collectors.

Love it. Would love to see a video of it running.

I'm pretty much adjusted to being a vette guy now since selling my Mustang.

Wow, flash-back to '79. Bought a t-top Formula; great one (also had Olds 403 engine). Sold it in 85 and bought a 944 which I'm still driving!

Damn...I think back to how doggy some of those old cars were back then and always wondered when and if they would become "classics".

My brother had a 79 Z28. The only car I have ever seen in the color combo it was in with the wheels it had...I will have to find a pic soon. 175 hp 350 cubes. Just seems crazy that even happened...but the cars just weren't juiced up like the cars of the 60s and the cars that came after the 80s and such.

The post 74 cars weren't powerful from the factory but it's easy to warn them up. Nothin wrong with those blocks. Mostly strangled intake, exhaust and low compression heads because they didn't know how to do low emission and high horsepower yet..

My 77 L82 (350) had 210 hp from the factory and that was the high performance option!

Getting rid of the smog crap and bolting on a 3" true dual exhaust and higher flow heads got it up over 300 pretty easy. It's not a monster but it'll run neck and neck with a 2005 mustang GT and sounds like a badass. Stock intake manifold and carb. Just added an open element air cleaner. Those old quadrajets really wake up when they can breath.

What time are you picking me up to drag Broadway next weekend?

egggzactly. Lots of good blocks from the late 70s /early 80s, those cars weren't running full tilt since they couldn't breathe, so getting one and opening it up makes them sing nicely.

My dad rebuilt a 57 Corvette in the late 80s. The motor he chose to use was a Chevy 350 truck motor with a 4 bolt main. Dual exhaust and headers if I remember correctly, and it was a runnin bitch. The car was a "Fuelie" body, had the holes for the "fuel injected" chrome insigias on the sides. Would have been sweet to find the original 283 motor from back then, but he was just interested in getting it put together and couldn't find the original motor and parts at that time (back then, your best bet was to advertise in Hemmings and wait).

Lord have mercy...would LOVE to have tht car now.
