Didn't know there was a science to auto detailing. Like I said above Detail Doctors at 63rd and Western are good. Don't know if they use NASA approved polishes and stuff, but my F-250 ran me $150.00 and it looked damn good inside and out. The rain x and polish they used lasted probably three months. That is, I could run it through a car wash and drive on the interstate and it would dry almost spot free.Originally posted by gipraw:
I don't know anybody in OKC I can recommend. I'd be happy to come do it .. but probably a bit pricey for you if it is a daily driver.
Make sure you get a referral from someone you trust, that has actually had work done by them, like squeak posting above. A good, complete detail should run several hundred dollars if there is anything other than a simple wax done to the finish.
If they are cheap and offering to polish and wax, they either don't know what they are doing, or are cutting corners somewhere. Almost 100% guarantee they suck if it is part of a full service car wash.
Ask what products they use. If you can walk into Autozone and buy everything they are using, go someplace else.

Glad you enjoy your craft. They had my truck all day. The truck is white so I doubt you could have made it look any better (in my eye's) than it was. I can't fathom spending $600 on a detail when in all actuality most new cars really don't need one. Just my opinion.Originally posted by gipraw:

There is a ton of science and skill to doing it right. The biggest issue with places like Detail Doctors is that they are more focused on speed than quality. they have to be in order to make money. Part of the way they do that is by covering up issues instead of fixing them. They use polishes and waxes that are high in fillers so the vehicle looks great for the first few weeks, then slowly starts degrading to the point where it needs to go back again. Serves two purposes for them. Speed and returning business. There is definitely a market for their product, and an awful lot of people that can't tell the difference between a $150 detail and a $600 detail so the extra quality is wasted on them.
How long did they have your vehicle? A F-250 is an all day job, maybe more depending on the condition of the paint and the quality of correction desired. What wax did they use on it? Did they do any defect correction?
if you are happy with the value you are getting, that is good. No reason to change.
End result is there are different definitions of good. As long as they meet your expectations, that is all that matters.
I also like the cheap places because eventually some of those vehicles end up coming to me for correction. There are exceptions to this generalization, of course,
I will say this .. You could bring your F-250 to me the moment they were done with it, and I could still make it look better.
tl;dr - I really enjoy detailing..
Most of them need it the most when they are new., Initial clean up and protection is essential to long term durability.Originally posted by long-duc-dong:
