Yes, the concept is completely idiotic, and completely ignores Germany after WWI. Those who espouse this know very little of history, and a quick glance at a high school history book would have told you that.

I'm amazed that people can't figure out that MMT is nothing more than a description of our current fiat currency system. We aren't on the gold standand and haven't been for decades. How deficit spending is used to accomplish political objectives is an entirely different animal. Our current fiat currency system isn't devoid of pitfalls.

I've asked this before, but have yet to get a response. How do you think new money comes into existence? Since the US government is the sole issuer of US dollars, the only way to grow the US economy is through deficit spending. There's literally no other way the private sector gets additional dollars for economic growth.
