I was not impressed with him, I watched the interview and at least Jake Tapper did not hold back, he was pretty hard on him, as he, and all of us should be

If those deputies had received proper training and had equivalent firepower and simply chose not to enter the building, I think the sheriff has a point. A coach can have a good game plan, but if the players don’t perform as they have been coached to do, I blame the players for the loss.

Unless I’m not getting something. And I know you guys will line me out if that’s the case!

Any tine the MAGA crowd is present, cowardice and gaslighting is never far behind.
Sorry, Sheriff Israel is clearly one of your pussyhats. The fact that he thinks he has no accountability is classic for a lefty leader. He won't resign because he thinks incompetence is the new getting things done after 8 years of watching rampant incompetence by the Kenyan Donkey Herder.

I think you hit the nail squarely on the head.

In this case we have no information about the game plan. It could have been a terrible game plan that was executed by the officers. We still don't know what their departmental policy is. It might clearly state that their officers aren't to make entry unless A, B, and C. It's clear that more than one officer did not enter. One lone officer makes me look at the individual. Two or more with the exact same behavior makes me also want to look at departmental policy.

That’s probably why Wyoming prefaced his entire statement with an “If”.

Except this officer was suspended without pay and the Sheriff has been running around basically saying it’s not his fault the officer didn’t engage.

Silly question, but why did the Coral Beach police have to come in and do the job that was obviously the responsibility of Broward? Lack of training, fear, and small weapon come to mind, but then again, I'm a numbers guy.

Just asking for a friend, carry on, and......:D

Apparently according to the Sheriff it’s not waiting outside.
Well, according to Coral Beach police officers, there were 4 outside. The resource officer and then 3 others behind their cars. One person not acting is probably individual. 4 people not acting smells like some kind of policy thing.

If it was the policy, why did Buford T. Justice throw him/them under the bus and say they should have gone in?

I completely disagree.

The kids and staff were up there ZERO firepower while the guy with some training some firepower looked after only his own life and well being.

I didn’t say it earlier, but I fault the sheriff for not having his deputies equipped with equivalent firepower, if the deputies didn’t have rifles.

I looked up the aerial view of that school on google earth. Some of those hallways look like they’re over 200 feet long. I wouldn’t be excited about taking a shot from that distance with a 4 inch barrel when the other guy has a rifle and is shooting at me and I don’t have any cover available.

I think it’s ridiculous for any officer to not be equipped with a rifle in today’s world. Again, I don’t know what the deputies had for firearms. I’m just saying if they didn’t have rifles, they should have.

I’m now prepared to get an ear full from the “don’t militarize the police” point of view.

If the department can not afford giving them a rifle, why not allow them to purchase their own? I bet if they took donations, people would donate to help them. How many rifles have the police taken off the streets that they could use?

In this day and age if I was LE, I would want my handgun, a shotgun, and a rifle. In a sense for LE they are all tools, and you need the right tool for the job. I would probably prefer 2 rifles, one with and one without a scope frankly. For a really long shot I want a scope, but for going in a building I would not want a scope.

Anyone remember the North Hollywood shootout?

This shootout taught police they needed to be better armed and I believe lead to at least SWAT units being much better armed. But it also demonstrated that the police was horribly equipped to take on a gunmen that was really armed and covered in Kevlar. You needed a rifle to get a head shot on those guys.

Pistol versus rifle is a mismatch, and would definitely be one in a long hall 200ft long with no cover. You are correct, hitting a target accurately with a pistol from 200 feet is not easy, that would be a competition grade shot, and not a high percentage shot IMO for anyone under those circumstances.

Do they make a tear gas gun that could get a canister thru a window and at least try to immobilize a shooter this way (I understand not all class rooms have windows)? That would not be pleasant for the students, but better then getting shot.

What about having a way to externally turn on the fire sprinklers? Would this possibly cause a gunmen to be less accurate?

What about desks having a Kevlar bottom and actually using them as a shield?

Been some good ideas on this board.

You have to do everything you can to distract shooters.

Likely a repurposed drug seizure car, but the point is still well taken....could have been sold rather than used for advertising.

100% certain nobody thought about this optic post school massacre

Not their car:

"However, as reported by the New Times Broward-Palm Beach, the cop-themed Lamborghini was actually on-loan to the department as part of a Toys for Tots charity effort and was never actually owned by the sheriff or used for police work."

I don’t know what the public access to government records are in Florida, but I can’t believe we haven’t heard the dispatch recordings of police radio traffic on this incident yet. Either somebody gave an order to not enter the building or they didn’t.
