ESPN box score
Throughout the game, Heard was consistently called things like exciting and electric, but his total yards can only be described as disappointing. No touchdowns, less than 50% completion rate, 119 passing yards and a 14.6 QBR. His feared rushing skills? 2.5 yards per carry for 48 total yards. That's less than the fat Stan Humphries looking guy from Central Michigan put on us.
Conclusion - Other than a bleak stretch in the 2nd quarter, our defense represented itself nicely.
Also, with all the talk about Mason - his final numbers were 22 of 34 for 290 yards. He had one TD and two INT's. About those.... they were back to back and he was clearly rattled for the first time since taking over as QB. That fumble got in his head pretty badly, and I think we did a shitty job of managing that by the random qb shuffling that followed. Worth noting, he had another INT on a HORRID throwaway attempt nullified by a marginal penalty. It could've been worse.
All that said, his numbers aren't as atrocious as they seemed during the game. His worst game? Maybe so. But he personally isn't in the top 10 of our systemic offensive problems. And his worst game
Main problem? We can't run. 2.2 ypc vs a terrible team is our top problem. Period. All the other complaints, while valid are far behind this continuing problem in relevance.
Also - Grogan needs more credit for this win. He overcame his own case of the yips and some coaching blunders today to deliver a clutch performance and buys us another week in our delusion that all our goals are still in tact.
