Fans are over reactionary in nature. Agreed some of it was uncalled for. Wrestling is a sport where if you come in unhealthy, under the weather or the guy across from you is just that much better there is no place to hide. You are going to get beat up in front of everyone. No excuses and it happens to guys all the time.

That's what happened. Boo is a better wrestler than that and I would be surprised if he doesn't turn it around and have a strong finish this year. If something prevents him from being able to do so then the coaches will make a decision to go in a different direction.

I was pretty harsh on Boo. If he’s been sick or hurt the past few weeks then I apologize to the young man. If not then laying on the mat while your opponent releases you then circles around you for a TD giving a technical fall in the final ten seconds and you don’t move is inexcusable....unless sick or hurt. Looked like he quit on himself and his team.

Please let us know if he’s been sick or injured. If so, he doesn’t deserve some of the comments. Please understand that many of us longtime OSU fans have seldom seen what we saw on Sunday from an OSU wrestler. Which is the reason for some of the comments.

I also think it's funny! If anything, our headliner 41 pounder deserves more scrutiny than Boo.

Not many on here know what it's like to run a life that is written by John Smith. Given, he's only the architect for several, long years...but it's got to be tough. Some guys seem to have trouble getting acclimated to the process that the greatest American Wrestler of our time requires. Also, Boo was wrestling a guy that is not exactly a slouch in probably the roughest environment in our sport.

It will reveal rather quickly if he's bucking the system or he's not 100%.

Have you ever wrestled at any level other than entry level youth? Guys get broken. It happens. You get out there and you get physically dominated and have an adrenaline dump and you physically have nothing left.

Yes he could of been sick or injured but he did not "quit" on himself or his team.

Yes. Broke my ankle the second match of my Senior year against Sand Springs and i was done.

I understand that guys get broken. Doesn’t happen often to guys who wrestle for schools like OSU, Penn St, Iowa, etc.. I understand the level which these guys wrestle. Worked out with several OSU wrestlers in the mid 80s and had a roommate who was in the room. Hopefully Boo figures it out. We need him going forward if not this year then certainly next.

Thanks for answering and while everyone is entitled to their opinion yours carries more weight for me on this topic. I just don't like those who have never stepped on the mat in practice or in a dual talk about effort, heart and quitting.

I just don't think he quit.

I dont think he quit theres tons of factors that go into it this was the first time hes done it so I will say its a isolated incident.Moore is the one who gasses in every match he better do bike matches until hes blue in the face.

If people are interested, take a look on Youtube or Flo for a match between Eric Grajales from Michigan and Andrew Alton from PSU. It is one of the most amazing examples of a wrestler that is exhausted and cannot fight anymore. The official actually loses track of the scoring in the flurry of the final minute.

Edit, found it.

Probably a poor choice of words on my part. There is no college athlete who I respect more than a wrestler. Those of us who competed know the discipline it takes to compete even at the high school level. The discipline it takes to compete at the elite college level is something that I believe only those who have done it fully understand. I certainly can’t but know enough to appreciate what they go though. I often tell my friends that wrestling is the loneliest of team sports imo. It’s certainly the toughest.

As long as Boo is wearing an OSU singlet he has my support. Again...poor choice of words on my part. Apologize to anyone I offended.

It happens ALOT in our room. I don't think John is very delicate when young men "break?"

If you think about it, we have a large amount of highly ranked guys wash out. Many of them are "can't miss" recruits that we all get pumped about. Maybe I'm misremembering, but it seems that way to me?

If Boo was injured or sick that is one thing.

If he wasn't, his performance was pretty inexcusable. I'll still be rooting like hell for him and hope he bounces back in strong fashion. The kid has talent but his performance on Sunday was one of the least inspired I remember since watching OSU wrestling.

Again, if he was sick or injured I completely understand. If not though he deserves a decent amount of criticism.

There was no indication he was injured or sick. It was disappointing but take a look at similar beat downs at CHA by Iowa of Eric Guerrero and Carl Perry and what those two did at the end of the season. Hopefully, he learned something from it.

Absolutely, I'm not writing the kid off and I do think some of the criticism has gone overboard. At the same time, Boo's performance Sunday was terrible. One of the worst I've seen out of Cowboy in my 15 years or so watching OSU wrestling. It wasn't about simply being over matched in a hostile environment. In the next weight we were overmatched but Blaylock wrestled hard. To me it looked like Boo flat out quit.

Go look at the Kendall Cross- Terry Brands match from the late 1980’s. I think it was at CHA as well.

Any wrestler who has wrestled from many years has those matches they wish they could do over because it was not a true representation of their skills and training. Put it behind you and focus on the future is the best that you can do. We will finish ahead of Iowa in March.

Pretty certain I've seen video of that one but didn't see it live. The best dual meet I've every seen (and there's been some great Bedlams) was the 97/98 season meet in CHA, there were a lot of #1 v #2 implications in that one. I was sitting ~1/3rd the way up in an orange shirt in the midst of a sea of ugly black (black can be beautiful especially when combined with the brightest orange, but black in CHA is just plain ugly). The entire meet is on the youtube channel for any to watch. It was painful watching the end of Eric G's match and believe he came within one more call of being DQ'd. HWT came down to a coin flip for choice in OT and it seemed that disc rolled on its edge for 3 minutes.

Looking back on it kind've forgot that believe Schwab was a Fr, it was couple years later 00 season witnessed similar match Schwab v C Perry (believe that one at Midlands), look up what Perry says about it. Point is both came back to win it that year. I also remember Matt Lackey talking about first time he wrestled Pritzlaff (didn't see that one) and it being a bit of a turning point.

Point is Boo can learn a great deal from this.

I think you guys are referring to the Kendall match against Tom Brands, not Terry. At least that's the one I remember. When I think of Kendall vs Terry, I think of the 1996 Olympic Trials.

Here's my take - and I'm a Boo fan. Some of the "in match" comments were probably a little harsh, but that comes from the passion behind watching us wrestle Iowa. I've yelled at the TV plenty watching sports, but today we have message boards and twitter to vent. To me Boo was thrown off when Sorenson pancaked him for 4 pts on his go to takedown attempt at the beginning of the match. After that he was hesitant to try it again. People may not like the term "quit", but Sorenson did seem to "break" Boo at the very end. In wrestling, the goal is to break your opponent. You want him to walk off the mat hoping he never has to wrestle you again. And that's the key right there. A true competitor may break in one match, but he wants to wrestle you again. He now wants to beat you more than ever.

Said this before. Boo is a tough kid. He's had serious injuries and major surgeries to come back from. Facing adversity is not new for him. You can bet on him being back better than ever at some point.

Craaaaaaaap!!!!

Yes, it was TOM Brands. You’re right. I’m wrong. You’re smart. I’m dumb. You’re very good looking. I’m a hideous monster. :)

And yes, my point being all competitors have bad matches/games/events. And sometimes once the avalanche starts, you just can’t stop it, no matter how hard you try or how bad you want to. Boo had one Sunday. And he can learn from it and bounce back.

If I remember right Kendall Cross is the reason why Tom Brands was not a 4 time champ.

You are way off on the last 2 comparisons. :(

Just for fun:

Tom 19 - 9 over Kendall in Iowa (Oh well, they can't all be fun)

Kendall over Tom NCAA Final

Kendall over Terry Olympic Trails; Terry's sportsmanship at the end is the best part
