U.S. Political Party Preferences Shifted Greatly During 2021
Although the U.S. political party affiliation average for 2021 was similar to prior years, the country shifted from a nine-point Democratic preference early in the year to a five-point Republican advantage near the end.

The Gallup poll shows a 14 point swing in party identification from Q1 to Q4 of 2021. Its one of the largest swings in Gallup polling history. And note, this isn't Biden's job approval rating that we're talking about. People who previously identified themselves as Democrat or Democrat-leaning independents are now identifying as Republican or Republican-leaning.
