For those that don't understand what Democrats/leftists mean when they call for unity, what they mean is there can only be unity if everyone does what the Democrats/leftists tell them to do.

All Presidents talk about unity. In our system of governance though, strong across the board unity is essentially impossible to achieve (apart from a foreign attack on our nation, and even then, that unity is fleeting). At the best, all a President can hope for is a working majority-style unity where some important things can get done.
Really, you don't have any idea what Biden could have done differently?
IMO… last president to have true unity and make a consistent effort is George W following 9/11.
The rest are pushing their agenda and unity is a thing of the past sadly… Trump included btw.
Which was a foreign attack on our nation. However, once W. Bush began implementing policy in response to that attack, we saw that strong unity decrease.
We have never had strong across the board unity in this country, except in times of a foreign attack and/or a war. But even in times of war, there have been those who disagreed with the President and sought to change course.
Vocal and strong disagreement is a part of our system. Always has been.
