So got back last night from the 2 day father/son basketball camp at OSU. Few musings if anyone interested. Small camp, only about 25 parents with 25 kids around 2nd to 8th grade. Boynton had his young son in the camp so Mike was actually a parent participant, stayed night with his son in the Dorm with the rest of us, pretty cool. Keiton ran the camp, and players led all the drills and activities. We ate 3 meals in the team lounge/locker room, then watched movie space jam on the main gym video board Friday evening.
Coaches, staff, and players all extremely friendly and professional. Another head coach on campus and a major OSU program coordinator had their son's their as well. We had one Dad blow his Achilles 5 minutes before the 1st day ended. He left court in crouches and didn't come back 2nd day, but coaches said he would be ok, eventually. Happened at Cam McGriff's station, go figure, ha (non-contact injury). I know player talent when I see it in a game, but I can't tell much from two days of players explaining to my son how to make a better bounce pass. I will say my son's favorite player going in was Lindy Waters, but the new freshman Kentrevious Jones (Kent) may have taken the lead there. Kent looking pretty good weight wise. I heard he's lost 30 pounds already. Demuth is going to be a pretty big kid physically once he fills out more. 4th tallest player on the roster, which is also a little scary. Anei is all legs I think. Sure hope he and Kent can get it done inside this year. It would be so helpful to get a last minute transfer inside. Hulsey would know more about that then me though.
Bennett dorm is where we stayed and looks like something out of the 70s. Needs serious renovation or replacement. I stepped outside and looked at the new jumbotron. About half the panels are up and looking large. Yes, I should have taken a photo to share. Finished camp with a full court 5 on 5 Dad's only game. Boynton played as a Dad participant and of course best player on the court, although some of us Dad's did have some talent as well, though greatly diminished!
