Most agree this kid holds the key to the uo season. uo fans are very excited this former Big 12 newcomer of the year is their starting QB. My question is how did he ever get this far? I finally got a chance over the weekend to take a look at this kid's stats. Goodness!!! He had one good game against Big 12 competition.

Here is the real skinny. Against the likes of SMU, Stephen F Austin, and Texas St he threw 7 TD's and 1 INT. Against Big 12 competition, he threw only 5 TD's(in 3 more games) but he had 8 INT's. It gets even better. Remember, this was in 2013 when the Baylor defense was as porous as cheese cloth. 4 of those TD's were against Baylor. So he won Big 12 newcomer of the year with 1 TD against Big 12 teams not named Baylor. In 6 Big 12 games he threw only one more TD pass against teams not named Baylor than I did and I am 65 years old.

He led his team in INT's in the spring game as well and from what little we have heard he has continued this during fall practice. Keep in mind, this is against the 114th ranked pass defense last year.

The secondary is not the strength of the Tenn defense but the front 4 is. I bet we see some wounded ducks as Mayfield bails out before he is pounded to the turf.
