My wife and I have been invited to the Catholic baptism for the young daughter (<1 year old) of some close friends. We're planning to arrive at the church for the baptism after mass is over, and then attend the celebratory BBQ later in the afternoon.

As I grew up attending Protestant churches, I had a few questions I wanted to ask of the Catholics on this board:

1. What is appropriate attire for the baptism at the church? I was thinking business causal for the Mrs and I is appropriate?

2. What is appropriate attire for our son? For reference, he will be only 20 months old. He's growing very quickly for his age, so we were hoping to avoid having to buy him a nicer outfit that he's only going to wear one time.

3. We're planning on bringing a few baby gifts to the BBQ as we haven't seen the parents since their little girl was born in February. This wouldn't be consisted tacky, would it?

Please pardon my ignorance, and thanks in advance.

Business casual is fine. I don't think it matters what the 20 month old wears. I have seen people wear flip flops to the catholic church that I have attended.

I think you are on target with your dress and gifts.

I wouldn't worry one bit about your sons attire either.

What a great friend you are

You're in good shape.

Colorado_Poke, I was in a similar circumstance, except it was my own son's baptism. Weird...especially for a WASP turned WASA.
