I've said it on these boards many times: terrorists as a demographic are really dumb. They attacked and raised hell in Paris with fake bombs?

Devoting too many resources to stopping really dumb people is a tempting trap. They're like criminals. Just not that many smart ones. Think what some really smart ones could do. The borders and coastlines have been largely naked for decades. A free and open society. If tou look at terrorist body of work, they've done surprisingly little damage for being as motivated as they are.

9/11 aside, I agree.

I read a study recently and I think around 13% of Muslims in this country approve of terroristic tactics. I wonder how many of those people would be willing to slip on an explosive vest and go for a stroll in a crowd of unsuspecting targets....

Let's take it out of the realm of make believe. How many of them HAVE?

Are they dumb or is this just a smaller attack also being used to assist in the planning of a much larger scale attack? Has it not occurred to you that the fake bombs could have been to learn standard operating procedures?

There are a lot of benefits to doing it this way. First, they get a dry run that creates casualties. Second, they monitor SOP's so that they can ensure they inflict maximum casualties in the larger scale attack via secondary explosions, hostage situations, etc. Third, it does in fact force nations to commit resources thereby costing money. They've been pretty up front in stating that one of thier goals is to bankrupt thier enemies.

Boy, you've had your arrogance on full display this evening.

oh bull. He's a crazy moron. He's homeless. There you right wingers go again, overreacting and over alarming.

We'll see if one guy at one police station is really some bigger tactical strategy. Any ideas how to determine who's right to accommodate a wager? This is low hanging conservative paranoia fruit.

Now I'm confused I thought you said the bombs in the Paris attack were fake? Now your saying it was one guy with a fake bomb. I haven't been watching the news so I'm obviously lost on this one.

Actually it's a pretty common practice by organized terror cells, not paranoia.

I don't like talking about my military experience on here but I will this time since your such a smart guy.

We were constantly having to change up our SOP's because of such tactics. We were called out on several fake IED's. We even got real lucky once that our Duke was jamming the signal. We set up our perimeter and pulled defense for EOD while they disarmed the IED that was found. Once they were done we loaded up and started back to the FOB and as soon as we got 50 meters from where we had set up our perimeter the secondary went off, it was a deep buried IED. We could have lost at least half the squad that night.

Again, your arrogance is on full display.
