It seems to me we have puzzle pieces falling into place all over the playing board. If we could find a way to put together even an "average" run game, we would be a complete team.
I think most defensive questions have been answered most satisfactorily. Our kicking is solid. Our punting is outstanding. Our return game could be better but we are not without the occasional spark even there.
Offensively, the deep pass has obviously blossomed. Hayes, Jarwin and Glidden have intermediate routes down, although I don't think Glidden was targeted much this week. Deep routes were available and Rudolph hit them. AND we caught them.
One good thing about the backs is that they all seem to be good receivers, too. But we would have thrust the dagger into the necks of the frogs early in the fourth quarter if we could have picked up just one or two more first downs on the ground on each of three drives.
Unfortunately, as it seems our OL may be improving, so is the quality of the DLs we are going up against. A 30 or 40 percent improvement against the bears and goons could propel us into the playoffs. I hope to see us show marked improvement in Ames.
