Family is wanting to buy me an Apple Watch for the birthday, I am just not sure if they're worth $400 or whatever they are. Who has one, and what are the pro's/con's? Being a teacher and coach, I do not have my phone on me/visible a majority of the time, so I like that I could see alerts on the watch. I work out, but I'm not someone who is going to go run Lake Hefner so I'm not sure I'd get much use out of the GPS on the Nike version. I will be mowing/dragging & watering softball infield just about every day, so would I need the water proof version? Currently I sport a Casio Baby-G, so no technology whatsoever.

I'm an Apple nerd but recently got rid of my Apple Watch for a Garmin Forerunner. The primary use case right now for smart watches are the notifications and there are a lot of options out there that are much cheaper and frankly look better IMO.

I have a Garmin Forerunner (Vivoactive) also. I really like it and think it looks a lot better than the Apple. It doesn't have ALL the capabilities of the Apple but it does what I need.

I'm biased and think Apple products suck. So of course I'd vote no on the watch.

I love my Apple Watch, but I won it. I like it for answering messages and emails, checking the weather on the fly, checking scores, and fitness. They're nice, but I think there are better options out there.

If you are an iOS guy, then get the Apple Watch. If not, get something else. Maybe you could get the Garmen. My wife loves it as a paper weight because otherwise it's shit. Fitbit sucks as a paper weight, but looks great on the dresser as it collects dust.

Thanks for all the input. Ended up with the space grey 38 mm Nike + Apple Watch. I like it, but may trade it in for the 42 mm.
