I worked with Grok to provide this analysis of the 2025 Oklahoma State Spring transfer portal class and asked it to grade each transfer on an A - F scale. Hopefully I got all the players in correctly. I think Taje is graded too low, and adding the DL portal transfer from Kentucky would improve the rating of the Spring transfer portal grade.

Updated Spring Transfer Additions for Oklahoma State (2025)

  1. Banks Bowen (QB, Tulsa)
    • Details: Freshman, 6-foot-3, 200 pounds, four years of eligibility. Appeared in one game for Tulsa in 2024, preserving redshirt. Three-star recruit, No. 44 QB in 2024 class (247Sports).
    • Background: Strong arm, mobile, threw for 2,400 yards and 24 TDs in high school at Southlake Carroll (TX).
    • Thoughts: Developmental depth for an unsettled QB room ( Zane Flores and Hauss Hejny). Unlikely 2025 starter but a long-term investment with local ties. Grade: C+
  2. DeAndre Boykins (S, North Carolina)
    • Details: 6-foot, 200 pounds, two years of eligibility. 78 tackles, six TFL in 37 games at UNC. Started 14 games in 2022, missed 2023 due to injury.
    • Background: Physical, versatile safety with Power 4 experience. Rotational in 2024, adds special teams value.
    • Thoughts: Plug-and-play depth for a secondary hit by losses like Kendal Daniels. Competes for a starting safety role alongside Cam Smith. Reliable but not elite. Grade: B
  3. Darius Thomas (LB, Louisville)
    • Details: Redshirt sophomore, 6-foot-2, 225 pounds, two years of eligibility. 54 tackles, 6.5 TFL, 4 sacks in 2024 at Louisville after three seasons at Western Kentucky.
    • Background: Explosive pass rusher, fits Todd Grantham’s versatile linebacker scheme. Transferred to Louisville in spring 2024, re-entered portal.
    • Thoughts: High-impact addition with starter potential. His 2024 production addresses OSU’s pass-rush needs, pairing with Kyran Duhon. Key for 2025 defense. Grade: A-
  4. Wendell Gregory (Edge, South Carolina)
    • Details: 6-foot-4, 245 pounds, two years of eligibility. Limited stats, former three-star recruit.
    • Background: Minimal action at South Carolina, athletic frame for edge role in Grantham’s defense.
    • Thoughts: Developmental project with pass-rush potential. Depth piece, likely rotational in sub-packages, with uncertain 2025 impact. Grade: C+
  5. Markell Samuel (OT, Appalachian State)
    • Details: 6-foot-4, 300 pounds, one year of eligibility. Started 15 games at left tackle, All-Sun Belt Honorable Mention in 2024. 820 snaps, five sacks allowed, 67.5 PFF pass protection grade.
    • Background: Former defensive lineman, switched to offense in 2021. 1,400+ career snaps.
    • Thoughts: Veteran starter for a rebuilt line that lost all 2024 starters. Reliable but needs to reduce sacks against Big 12 edge rushers. Likely left tackle. Grade: A-
  6. Bob Schick (OT, Virginia Tech)
    • Details: 6-foot-6, 315 pounds, one year of eligibility. Started 23 games, played 38 games, one sack allowed in 1,200+ snaps. Zero sacks in 502 snaps in 2024.
    • Background: Snow College product, key in Virginia Tech’s run-heavy offense (28 rushing TDs in 2024).
    • Thoughts: Elite pass protector, likely right tackle starter. Size and experience elevate the line’s ceiling, critical for protecting an unproven QB. Grade: A
  7. Cameron Abshire (WR, Emory & Henry)
    • Details: 6-foot-4, 185 pounds, two years of eligibility. D-II All-American, 51 catches, 1,057 yards, 14 TDs in 2024; 1,718 yards over two seasons.
    • Background: Redshirt sophomore from Virginia, doubled production from 2023 (661 yards, 6 TDs).
    • Thoughts: Abshire’s size and stats make him a potential starter in a thin WR group. His 96 yards per game and red-zone threat suit OSU’s needs, but D-II to Big 12 transition is a challenge. High-upside pickup. Grade: A-
  8. Freddie Brock (RB, Georgia State)
    • Details: 6-foot-1, 215 pounds, one year of eligibility. Graduate transfer, 819 yards, 8 TDs in 2024; 1,126 yards, 9 TDs over two seasons. Averaged 6.2 YPC.
    • Background: Began at Maine, top-10 bowl game performer in 2024.
    • Thoughts: Fills RB void post-Ollie Gordon II. Physical runner, likely competes with Kalib Hicks for lead back role. One-year eligibility limits long-term value but ensures 2025 stability. Grade: A-
  9. Terrill Davis (WR, Central Oklahoma)
    • Details: 6-foot, 180 pounds, one year of eligibility. D-II First Team All-American, 109 catches, 1,609 yards, 15 TDs in 2024. Set UCO records for receptions and yards.
    • Background: Choctaw, OK native, progressed from 141 yards (2022) to 538 (2023). Three 200+ yard games in 2024.
    • Thoughts: Davis’s record-setting season makes him a likely immediate starter, likely in the slot. His speed and hands are elite, but D-II to Big 12 jump is a risk. Local ties add value. Grade: A
  10. Christian Fitzpatrick (WR, Marshall)
    • Details: 6-foot-4, 217 pounds, one year of eligibility. 34 catches, 576 yards, 6 TDs in 2024, started all 13 games. Began at Louisville, spent 2021-23 at Michigan State.
    • Background: Led Marshall in receptions and yards in 2024, career-best season.
    • Thoughts: Starting experience and size make him a likely outside WR starter. Power 4 background adds credibility, but one-year eligibility caps value. Reliable target for 2025. Grade: B+
  11. Erin Fletcher (CB, East Carolina)
    • Details: 6-foot-2, 190 pounds, two years of eligibility. Played three games in 2024, one solo tackle. High school: 75 catches, 1,193 yards as a WR; 16 tackles as a DB.
    • Background: Dunbar High School product, transitioned to CB at ECU. Limited college stats but versatile athlete.
    • Thoughts: Raw, high-upside depth for a secondary needing bodies. His 6-foot-2 frame and WR background suggest ball skills, but minimal snaps make him a 2025 reserve or special teams contributor. Grade: C+
  12. Taje McCoy (Edge, Colorado)
    • Details: 6-foot-3, 245 pounds, two years of eligibility. Limited 2024 stats, assumed rotational edge rusher. Putnam City High School (OK) product.
    • Background: Played alongside Colorado’s BJ Green II, likely a depth player with pass-rush potential.
    • Thoughts: Power 4 experience and Oklahoma roots add value, but sparse stats suggest a rotational role in Grantham’s defense. Upside for sub-packages. Grade: C+
  13. De'Marion Thomas (DL, Vanderbilt)
    • Details: 6-foot-2, 334 pounds, two years of eligibility. Started all 13 games in 2024, 34 tackles, 1.5 TFL, 1 sack. Played 23 games over two seasons, 41 career tackles.
    • Background: Tulsa Union High School product, ranked No. 8 on The Oklahoman’s Super 30 (2023 class). Chose Vanderbilt over Baylor, Arkansas, Iowa State. Noted for late-season surge (six tackles vs. LSU, four solo vs. Tennessee).
    • Thoughts: SEC starting experience and local ties make Thomas a cornerstone for OSU’s defensive front. His 334-pound frame anchors the run defense, complementing winter transfer Kyran Duhon. Likely an immediate starter, his 34 tackles and 70.0+ PFF tackling grade address 2024’s run defense woes (4.8 yards per carry allowed in Big 12). Limited pass-rush production (1.5 TFL) is a slight concern, but his size fits Grantham’s scheme. Two years of eligibility add 2026 value. Grade: A
