I confess I had no idea you were planning on addressing the nation last night to announce your intentions regarding the Covid pandemic. So it came as something of a surprise to me as I was channel surfing to stumble upon your address. I caught it just as you said: "Fourthly, in the coming weeks we will issue further guidance on what you can and cannot do once vaccinated to lessen confusion ..."

Excuse me? You're going to issue guidance on what I can and cannot do? I guess I need to remind you, Sir, that I am an American citizen, born free of constraints put on me by an overbearing government apparatus. It was the casual indifference with which you spoke those words that most shocked me, as if in your mind of course I will obey your commands, no questions asked, just do as I am told. So please allow me to be specific: I will NOT obey commands issued by you or any other government official telling me what I can or cannot do after I get a vaccination, which I have no intention of getting in the first place. I will defy you at every turn, as is my right as a free human being, as is the American legacy handed down to me by countless generations that came before me. Make no mistake, I will peacefully practice civil disobedience. I'm sure you are counting on the majority of us to bow in obeisance to your authority (in which you are probably correct, much to my dismay), and for those of us who defy your commands you are relying on law enforcement to become a new American gestapo (in which you are also probably correct). But I, Mr. Biden, was born free and I will die free or go down under the onslaught from you and your fellow statists' tactics. There are no circumstances under which I will recognize your right or authority to tell me what I "can and cannot do."

Wow Dan, I'm impressed with you releasing your inner George Patton.

Well done my friend, top shelf.

"They wanted no more Mother England.
They knew the time had come
For them to take command.
It's very clear you're being unfair, King,
No matter what you say, we won't obey.
Gonna hold a revolution now, King,
And we're gonna run it all our way
With no more kings...

We're gonna elect a president! (No more kings)
He's gonna do what the people want! (No more kings)
We're gonna run things our way! (No more kings)
Nobody's gonna tell us what to do!"

lol, Dan, what are you imagining here?

When it comes to government becoming tyrannical I have a very active imagination. What do you think Biden meant when he said he’d tell us what we could and couldn’t do? Do you think he meant he’ll tell us whether we must wear masks, or he’ll permit us to do without? Will he tell us we can socialize with others, how many, how often, indoors or out? Will he tell us whether we can travel, or forbid it? Will he demand unvaccinated citizens comply with mandated house arrest? Seriously, Pilt, what do you think? You’re the most hard core statist on this board. Surely you have ideas on how the government can best keep the society under its control. All I’m saying is I personally will not comply with orders. I’m going to live as a free man or Biden’s gestapo will have to “disappear” me. That will be preferable to living knowing that I wilted before tyranny.

I think he meant he would tell us what we can and can't do safely.

What would you do if Biden told you couldn't jump off a bridge

What would you do if Biden told you couldn't jump off a bridge
I wouldn’t jump off the bridge, but not because of anything Biden ordered. What would you do if Biden ordered you to jump off the bridge (in the name of the “greater good” of course)?

One of the things I most like about having conversations with you, Pilt, is how you try so hard to structure the conversation so that your “opponent” must justify his comments. Which is something I personally embrace. I rarely am afraid to explore the rationale behind my opinions, and usually I don’t express them unless I am confident I can justify the rationale.

OTOH one of the most irritating aspects of having a conversation with you is your refusal to adhere to the same expectations for yourself. You hide behind “being clever,” apparently thinking that shields you from explaining your opinions. You seem to think being clever is evidence of your intelligence. I’m here to tell you it is the other way around. It’s evidence that you have no confidence in the veracity of your opinions. I know you are intelligent. But it is frustrating (to me at least) to watch you put on your act.

Sorry, Dan, this one isn't that complicated. Occam's razor it. Was Biden saying that he would give guidance on what vaccinated people could safely do, or was he saying that he was usurping the US constitution and waiting until after everyone is vaccinated to use COVID as a pretext for a police state?

I thought the President giving covid guidance was a big no-no. Did that change when a new president was sworn in?

Huge no-no. My biggest beef with Trump was that he provided covid guidance.

No, Pilt, one should never assume Occam's Razor when discussing talk from ANY politician. At any rate Biden did not say he would "give guidance," at least not in the sense that he would make recommendations. He specifically said he was going to tell us what we can and cannot do in order to avoid confusion. Sorry, Brother, but I am hypersensitive to the rhetoric of people with governmental power. You should be, too. Just because you are a socialist does not immunize you from the ungodly hell that socialism unleashes upon people.

OK cool Dan. We will know what Biden actually meant soon enough. I guess we will see if Biden's master plan all along was to impose tyranny on people after they get the vaccine (obviously the most opportune time). In any case Biden's senility is kicking in and left a massive loophole in his master plan for ruling over your every action. "what you can and cannot do once vaccinated" to avoid the gestapo, just don't get vaccinated, or if you do burn up your vaccine card, good luck to the Vaccine gestapo proving that you are actually vaccinated, what with the administrative headache the vaccine roll out was.

My thoughts exactly. I'm still waiting on him to screech about Biden's draft dodging. One more deferment than Trump and not a peep from zher. Weird.
If you didn't dodge the draft you are either too idealistic to be president, or aren't Machiavellian enough to ever win the presidency.

Okay, just so I am understanding you. You are saying what Biden meant when he said he would tell us what we can and cannot do once we're vaccinated (inferring that we would have to get vaccinated) was he would make recommendations, and people will be free to follow those recommendations or not. And those of us that do not follow his recommendations will face no backlash from law enforcement because they won't be actual orders but merely well intentioned ideas of what Joe Biden thinks is in our best interest. This flies in the face of historical fact that presidents and governors and mayors and city councils across the land have issued edicts that were expected to be obeyed and enforced by men armed with weaponry. But this time none of that applies. This time Uncle Joe has no plans to overstep his lawful boundaries. Forget that he has overstepped those boundaries multiple times in his first 50 days. This time we will see well meaning benevolent Uncle Joe. Well, Pilt, I hope you're right, but I have very serious doubts.

Yes that is my understanding of what guidance is.

Dan, those governors and mayors had that legal authority. Biden doesn't. If Biden can't be bound by law and the constitution isn't already too late for the histrionics?
Like I said, we won't have to wait very long for this to be resolved. Only a few months away from complete authoritarian dystopia or life largely back to normal. I won't even come back to this thread to say I told you so, because I know you will already be reflecting on how your analysis was wrong and there will be no need for me to rub it in.

As is usual for you Pilt, you always come at a tangent, always just slightly off target. I would ask you to say without double meaning whether you think Biden means to issue recommendations or edicts he will claim legal authority to make, fully expecting law enforcement to keep people in line? Will his recommendations apply only to those who have been vaccinated? And what do you think will be his recommendations for those of us that have not been vaccinated? And just to be sure: you are insisting that there will be no negative governmental repercussions to those people who don't follow his recommendations. These should be very easy to answer. Either you think they are nothing more than unenforceable recommendations or they're not.

Recommendations.
Will his recommendations apply only to those who have been vaccinated?
The quote from your OP certainly had that clause.

And what do you think will be his recommendations for those of us that have not been vaccinated?
I don't think there will be a new recommendation for that for some time.

No federal government repercussions. Can't speak for the tyrants in the statehouses.

Well there we have it. The most statist person on the board has assured me I have nothing to fear. I probably should feel relief, but, damn it! I have this nagging suspicion they won't be timid recommendations. But thanks for trying to calm my nerves!

Dan it's moot, we'll find out

I don't care either way. It was syskatine's hill. I'm just curious why it was a YUGE deal wth Biff but he's been completely mute about Biden.

Trump may have been an asshole, (I kind of liked that about him) but he wasn't supportive of attacking or suppressing freedom.
An undeniable truth. Trump is not a plantation cracker. Prior to the pandemic, minorities saw the lowest unemployment numbers on record and rising wages. After the Hugo Biden selection, black America is watching poverty numbers grow.
