"I think building a concrete structure sea to shining sea is the most expensive and least effective way to do border security," said Will Hurd, a Republican congressman whose district has the longest border with Mexico.

Congressman Hurd's 23rd Congressional District, which stretches from El Paso to San Antonio, shares the largest border with Mexico of any member of Congress.

It is the least effective (on its own) and most expensive. It is also the most long lasting. It doesn't waver to the whims of the next Obama who'll turn a blind eye or even tacitly encourage illegal border crossings. The problem is that the Democrats don't want to proved a defense in depth strategy of border protection. As such, if you are going to have one barrier, a wall it is.

Anyone with half a brain knows it is a physical impossibility to build a 2000 mile wall. It's a ridiculous statement.

Why is El Paso a safe city and across the river is one of the most violent cities on Earth? Oh, they have a wall. Same for San Diego, Yuma and as Jim Acosta pointed nice and quiet where there's a wall in south Texas.

Democrats have changed their position. They have gone full blown lefty and now want open boarders with barely any restrictions. Let's see how that works out for them long term.

Do not understand why the Trumpster's do not understand this. Even Trump is backing up. Guess they have never lived in Houston or S. Central Texas or El Paso Texas..
Already posted what a retired BP told me. Wall will not stop shit. Some fencing, better surveillance and more agents are what is needed.
That does not cost $5.B. Shutting down the government and threatening a crisis is just stupid.

Would you like me to post opinions of other border patrol agents who think it would help? You’re aware they exist, right?

Here’s one. Two main points to this. First, the border patrol agent’s union dropped their previously posted opposition to the wall. Second, the union president endorsed the idea of a wall.

Just so we are clear here...the UNION merely dropped it’s previous official opposition to the wall, and a SINGLE GUY (Union President) actually endorsed it.

Accurate?

I would say that reflects that border patrol agents themselves are not united on the question of a wall and folks are citing whatever members that happen to agree with them and attempting to portray all border patrol agents as in monolithical agreement on the issue.

I can’t imagine the union president going out on that limb without consulting membership first. But I haven’t looked into it any further than what I posted.

I easily can imagine the Union President personally endorsing something that the Union hasn’t voted on or expressed a unitary position.

A union president who doesn’t speak for his membership on a topic like this isnt going to be union president for long. Or, alternatively, union membership will decline.

In the meantime, I checked the union website and am unable to find anything to prove or disprove this either way. www.bpunion.org

I only support the wall because Chuck Schumer supportednit before Trump won. He convinced me.

Wut? Never called either one a liar.
Really? Can you please explain what you meant by, "what would you expect him to say in front of the President and cameras"?

Personally, I would expect him to tell the truth and relate his and his colleagues true experience. Absent that, I'd expect him to say nothing.

Are you saying now that you believe what he told the President was the truth?

Did not say that he was a liar or nor that was his opinion. Why else would he be on TV if he disagreed with Trump? Think there are some other opinions from the BP that did not make the Trump fanfare.

That isn't what you said. And most of what he says didn't constitute "his opinion".
