Lets face it oberebo - we are dinasaurs. :-(I harken back to a simpler time in the early 60's when we had true amateurs in the sport. Good luck to AJ but not my preference for college wrestling. Probably the wave of the future but I bet the ghosts of the Oklahoma State/Oklahoma A&M past are turning over in their graves.
Don't kid yourself, oberebo is well past dinosaur ... he is fossil fuel old.Lets face it oberebo - we are dinasaurs. :-(
The colleges are not paying one dime more for this so getting an education has been the goal of Athletic scholarships. As far as these outside deals go it will affect very few athletes as companies are not going to pay for 99% of the athletes to sponsor their products. As far as AJ vs.Steveson that is a pipe dream. Not only is Steveson the bigger and better athlete, he is much more skilled as a wrestler IMOAny kind of post college success our guys have - coaching, WWE, MMA, Olympics - is good for our program, I think. The NCAA's system of quasi indentured servitude was found to be unlawful by the highest court in the land, so here we are. And the Steveson vs Ferrari WWE hype (whether it happens or not) will surely bring more eyes our way.
Of course, kids these days have it much easier than mid-20th century grads did - it's no longer uphill both ways.
Oh, he will do well in WWE and he will make money but name another wrestler on our team that can do that. I am not against AJ using his thespian skills to make money but I am sorry I do not feel sorry for those poor wrestlers that came before all this commercialism. They were given a boost by their scholarship to earn a college degree and some would have not been able to do so without it. I fail to see how one wrestler's success in a fake sport helps wrestling on the college or international level. Do not get me wrong, I am not against wrestlers earning extra money but it will only help a small minority of college wrestlers. If the NCAA really wanted to help student athletes they would increase the amount and number of scholarships given. That will not happen unless the colleges themselves support it and good luck on that. I go out of my way never to watch a caricature of the sport I love and one that appeals to our worst instincts.WWE is about showmanship and AJ has that in spades.
Go back and read the info again, no indication any of these athletes are going to be in WWE it appears to just give them access to resources that might lead them to eventually have interest.Oh, he will do well in WWE and he will make money but name another wrestler on our team that can do that. AEW better than WWE. WWE letting a lot of good talent go.It's so smart on AJ's part. Now he gets 4 years of access to WWE's resources, 4 years of "OMG Gable vs AJ in WWE!" hype, and when he finishes college he can still make the decision to do entertainment (WWE), combat sports (MMA), coaching, or chase an Olympic dream.
