Yeah and it’s gonna get a lot worse.

The buildings that weren’t burned show lots of evidence of significant wind damage - imagine fires with tons of fuel being driven by 70-100mph winds.

There are hundreds still missing and as of sometime yesterday the cadaver dogs had covered 3% of the rescue/recovery area.

When you have found 30-50 victims just lying in the streets or in burned out cars you can start to imagine what was happening and how fast some were overcome.

Maui has warning sirens and authorities did NOT sound them. They chose instead to use high-tech methods, but power was out way before the fires exploded due to the high winds. And cell networks were unreliable even in good conditions; with all the disruptions from winds and power outages it sounds like it was worse.

There is already a story of how a group was rescued using the iPhone satellite SOS feature - they were in downtown Lahaina in a parking lot and had been surrounded by fire and smoke and they had no functioning cell service.

High tech methods sound great but they do not have the reliability of older technologies because the government mandated that reliability in the past and have been less strict in recent decades.

Then there’s the problem of why the hillsides are abandoned farmland covered with invasive grasses that die in the summer dry season and create a giant tinder box. I’m sure there’s plenty of blame to go around between private and public entities for that situation. I guarantee there will be lots of finger pointing despite ample distribution of culpability.

This was preventable on multiple fronts. That’s what’s most tragic about it.

Moral of the story, never rely on government for you protection or your livelihood.

Rejected.
This is definitely yore speed. The best part is watching you dutifully white knight a worse version of everything you have screeched about in Trump. Literally.

"I watched that bridge collapse. I got there and saw it collapse with over 200 feet off the ground going over a valley. It collapsed. Thank God school was out during the pandemic."

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
