A VERY serious look at Trump's Current Success and...

trump is great at pointing out all the problems, just not so great at figuring out how to fix, cure, or change things up in a manageable way. I see him sinking in the polls as soon as the field gets narrowed down. Of course, everyone has been saying that for months so who knows.

I agree it probably is over-thinking it to a certain degree. I also think it is a helpful guide to understanding why Trump has been able to get this far and why he likely won't succeed ultimately.

Government and politicians do do a lot of stupid things; that's undeniable. Trump says a lot of stupid things and either doesn't offer a solution to many of the issue she raises or offers an equally stupid prospective solution.

Until this field gets narrowed down to 4 or 5 people or less there is no way to make him get specific and he won't. When it comes to a real debate between real contenders then we'll see if he has legs.

The problem is with these republican wind bags that have no shot they may allow Trump to win the nomination before the field gets narrowed.

I think the article does a decent job (albeit in an overly academic tone) of explanation why that likely won't happen.

A pretty funny, related deal: Nate Silver and his political crew at FiveThirtyEight did a draft of the GOP candidates based upon when they would officially drop out. You get more points if your pick drops in Dec vs. Jan vs. Feb. They did it via live chat and captured the chat (they due a chat on some topic every Tuesday).

Some of it was pretty funny. No one was allowed to pick Jim Gilmore! They are getting ready to launch a regular Presidential Election podcast in January. If you can find it (shouldn't be hard), it's a pretty funny read and interesting exercise. They ended up with Cruz as the last man standing, but that doesn't necessarily mean too much.

I agree. I don't see anyone who is supporting any of the R candidates not named Trump joining his camp once their guy/girl drops out of the race.

He is so insane. Then I saw a clip of him getting mad and chewing Jeb's ass out on national TV and I enjoyed it. I'm a liberal and I think he's awful but I enjoy watching him bitch slap a Bush. It's unprecedented in the annals of presidential debates - just chewed him out, called scoreboard and Jeb stammered. He totally emasculated Jeb.

I think spoiling the party for Jeb may be the main reason Trump jumped in, at least originally. He's been pissed for years that Jeb didn't approve his Miami casino.

I was just telling my dad how it has been highly entertaining watching Trump troll the hell out of Jeb. I mean Trump has just beat up on Jeb and Jeb is Jeb about it.

One more reason why Trump is sailing on is the budget deal Ryan just did. They gave Obama and the dems everything they wanted and put up zero fight. They fully funded Obama's programs (Obamacare, global warming, Asian trade agreement, etc.) and quadrupled the size of Obama's amnesty program. Paul Ryan is Boehner on steroids.

Someone has got to stop this insane Republican Congress and the direction this country is headed financially, culturally, and security wise. Trump is the only one speaking out with any sort of passion. They people voted overwhelmingly in 2010 and 2014 for politicians' promises to stop this outrageous growth of the government welfare state and all the GOP has done is thumb their nose at the voters and continued on doing the democrats' business. Whether or not Trump can do any of what he is saying or can even be elected remains to be seen but, the middle class is seeing all they've worked for being lost and they are pissed. They've been misled and lied to by everyone in Washington. Trump is the only one who is remotely believable. That's why he's getting the response.

I don't have to make my selection until March 1 but the most vociferous in expressing much of my disdain for the current state of affairs is Trump and to a lesser extent Cruz. The unpolitiican appeal this election cycle is wider and deeper than is being acknowledged.

Ryan is a major disappointment.

I'm not sure how someone who is thoughtful about it can think that Trump is believable. He is very effective at communicating the anger, distrust, and frustrations felt by most Americans at the inaction by Washington politicians at the problems every day Americans are concerned about. However, he either: (a)offers no solution, (b) offers a solution that is idiotic and/or that he knows has no chance of ever happening; and/or (C)states a position that is diametrically opposed to the position he held very recently and for all of his adult life.

Donald is the ultimate master-baiter when it comes to manipulating "the great unwashed" (RIP Blackie Sherrod). The GU will eat every turd and clamor for more, but are too stupid to comprehend reality.
