If our NeoCons get their way and provoke a nuclear war, odds are several billion people will be killed. That would probably make environmentalists happy (as long as they’re not among the dead), they are convinced there are too many people. On the other hand it might make the planet uninhabitable for decades or centuries or millennia, what with fallout and nuclear winter and all. It must be a serious challenge for them to decide if the positives of nuclear war would be worth the negatives.
