Maybe a little detail on what it’s about?
The story takes place circa 1820 in England at the time Napoleon was ravaging Europe.
Becky Sharp, a daughter born to a painter father and an opera dancer mother, two of the lowest classes in society is orphaned at a young age, but taken in by a well intentioned woman that runs a finishing school for ladies of quality. Becky by this time is a hardened and hard hearted person who longs to be accepted by the upper class. She clashes with her mistress and us sent to be a governess at a mansion in the country.
The story centers around Becky scheming and clawing and betraying everyone her way to the highest levels of society.
The story in the book, and the TV show, exposes the levels of hypocrisy and immorality of each person she encounters, regardless of the class to which they belong.
The TV show makes Becky to be more likable than the book, but in the show she is bad enough. There are only one or two characters with actual nobility, but even they are mostly exasperating.
It is a fascinating study of English society at that time, but is timeless in that we see the same attitudes today.
The book is one of my favorites of all time. There are parts in which it is hysterically funny. The TV show omits a lot of the humor, but it follows the story pretty closely.
Seven episodes. Really wonderful TV.
