It has become popular among those on the left to advocate for greater government intrusion into the lives of its citizens. I’m sure they view this intrusion as benevolent and necessary for the well being and prosperity of the country (in spite of all historical evidence to the contrary). We are witnessing calls for “free healthcare, free college education and jobs for all” among many other demands. We all know, of course, that none of their desires are free. They all come with huge costs which must be borne by the very people who will be the recipients of the free largesse. In other words brace yourselves for massive tax increases. And such increases can not be levied against only the rich. It will by necessity have to trickle down to the rest of us. I was looking at this chart which shows the bottom 50% of taxpayers pay almost nothing in taxes. To pay for the “free” services the bottom 50% will almost certainly have to pony up.
Questions for those of you that call for such authoritarianism: 1) How big a burden do you think the lower income brackets should have to carry? 2) What should happen to those that refuse to carry the burden you want to place on them? 3). How do you respond when they insist you promised them this was all going to be free?
