To be fair, the kids were not asking to the 2nd amendment to be revoked (although they should). They asked for an end to the availability of assault rifles and high capacity magazines, a raise in the age limit to 21 and stronger back ground checks for mental illness.
Seems reasonable to anyone that is not a gun geek.
I promise I will change my mind on the subject if you can find any meaningful study or even one article about the time a homeowner died because he was outgunned. Darn it! He had a 38 special but the bad guys had assault weapons!
If someone comes in your home they are looking to steal your TV, not get in a gun battle. You like your assault weapons because they are fun and make you feel like a tough guy. Just admit it. I can respect that. Just drop the whole: "I need weapons of war to protect my family" crap. Everyone knows it is not true. A nice revolver that will never jam that takes 357 or 38 amoo will work just fine. So will a pump action shotgun.
Neither can kill mass amounts of children in minutes.

I don’t own a gun, never have. The only time I’ve shot a gun was when LBJ decided I should go over to VietNam to kill some yellow skinned heathens.
I know of no good way to put this. But here’s a feeble effort: your argument to confiscate everybody’s guns is to protect the lives of children during an occasional outburst from some nutjob. My argument for people keeping their guns is so they can protect themselves when a nutjob gains the political power to murder millions of his own citizens. I want children in schools to be safe every bit as much as you. But putting the lives of millions of people in danger is not the way to protect children.
Brt I like my Armalite 15 because it fun to see how tight of a 3 round grouping you can put on a target at 150 or 200 meters. Has nothing to do with feeling tough! So we should get rid of “assault weapons” (whatever those are) and defend ourselves with what you or some other non-gun geek thinks is a proper weapon. Man you and your ilk are one sanctimonious group of blow hards!
Can’t believe your a teacher either....so kids should be demanding the removal of the 2nd amendment huh? Actually there is a way to change the constitution but I seriously doubt many activist teachers bother to tell the kiddos how that works, more than likely they skip over all those pesky constitutional requirements and go straight to “just end the 2nd.” I’m dumbfounded your in a position of authority over kids in a public school setting and have serious reservations about whether you keep your personal views in check in a classroom setting, which should be paramount to helping kids formulate their own opinions for their journey down life’s roadway.
As a responsible gun owner have no issues with the other suggestions although you contradict yourself by suggesting they should be wanting an end to the 2nd (even though that’s not what they are protesting) vs tougher background checks, higher age threshold etc. the mental illness threshold seems a much tougher nut to crack, although it does appear a few states (just saw the program The State of Washington follows with a good degree of success) are on the right path there.
By the way a semi-automatic weapon IS NOT A WEAPON OF WAR! Anyway who promulgates that notion is a moron and is not a person I would want advise from.

I’m curious what your stance is on bump stocks and other rapid fire attachments, and mag limit. For the record, I’m against banning ARs
those weapons are shit if you live in a rural location far from neighbors, police and help. you know nothing.
A belt loop can be a bump stock. Please tell me you want to ban belt loops.
With respect to 9 round clips (since some people believe limiting the capacity will solve something), I can fit 4 in my front pockets and 4 in my back pockets. So even without a coat with extra pockets, with one in the gun and 8 spares, that is 80 rounds. Let me double that by wearing a coat and I can easily carry 160 rounds on my person. I can change out clips in 3 seconds. Most likely, I would have to pause more than 3 seconds regularly simply to let the barrel cool down. But nevertheless I could fire all 160 rounds in less than 10 minutes
I simply don't understand what limiting clip size will do to help minimize the effect of a deranged person. People proposing change need to be educated first.....before proposing anything.

Let’s say we set a universal limit on mag/clip size...heck let’s say it’s 9 rounds as you’re inferring...
Look at it from a law enforcement perspective...
Have you ever seen the movie Hollywood Homicide? Harrison Ford/Josh Hartnett. Well, if you haven’t, they’re cops. There is a scene where a guy steals a handgun from a cop and starts shooting and they’re hiding behind a car waiting...and Ford is counting the clip. Hartnett miscounts, and almost gets shot.
Now think about that scenario as it happens every day in any cop/bad guy gunfight, mass shooting, etc. Yeah, you might be a whiz at reloading, but you’re still having to reload for those seconds that play a crucial role.
But, hey, that doesn’t make any sense does it.

I stand corrected on the M1-Garand (off and on during WWII they did experiment with a selective firing switch on the M1, which resulted in a series of model changes from the T20 up through the T20E2, but never settled on a high production model change).
I'll still say though, that anyone who wants a strictly semi-automatic weapon in a war zone is a moron, given the overwhelming firepower one could gain by having an automatic weapon (with semi-auto selection switch). Also if you care to look back at a WWII & Korean War regiments TOE you'll find that not ONE unit had only semi-automatic weapons. Not going to count a M9 since it is a pistol and for close combat. That would be like saying since a Volkswagens, Yugo and Mercedes are all cars they are the same.
M1 Garand, K-98 Mauser and 1911 Colt 45. are all I have left on my list of weapons to buy BTW Sys. Bought a LSA 1905 Mk III Enfield .303 (with original bayonet) and would love to find a semi-auto Mk IV .303, but they aren't as easy to come by.
