Jacobe Smith, Oklahoma State
Jacobe (no relation to head coach John) comes to Stillwater via Northeast Oklahoma A&M, where he was a two-time junior college national champion.

With seniors Kyle Crutchmer and Jordan Rogers both graduating, the 174 spot in the Cowboys lineup is up for grabs, and Smith looks likely to claim it as his own. Smith had a perfect 11-0 record last season, which included wins over Fighting Illini All-American Zac Brunson and his heir apparent Xaiver Montalvo.

Oklahoma State graduated three All-Americans from its roster this year, so Smith will be counted on to step up and make up for some of those lost points if the Cowboys are going to contend for a team trophy at the NCAAs in Cleveland.

I think he can step into Crutch's shoes and do quite well.

I think he can do well also. I wonder what type of ceiling he has...All American, NC contender?

I think he is a solid mid-level AA type, 3-6 range. Very explosive. But that is just guessing.
I concur with Cowboyup61. He will AA this next year. He is physically gifted and a pleasure to watch. He is not big for 174 but very strong and quick. It is possible that he and Chandler Rogers could flip flop their weights at 165 and 174. I also am aware that Joe Smith may move up which does complicate the situation. Joe does have a red shirt year available. It would be a crime if any of the three lost a year as Jacobe and Chandler have used their redshirts.

I would like to see Chandler stay at his current weight. Don't think he had any problems maintaining it. A lot of Joseph's problem's was not being able to train appropriately, and maybe not doing the correct things off the mat to make up for lack of solid mat time. He should be able to hold 57 without a problem.

Really the only question in my mind for next year is who fills 84 and Hvy. Everywhere else we are beyond solid.

If Joe is not 100% healed in November he should redshirt. Unless someone grows to 184 we will miss one very likely AA in that group in the next two years.

There will definitely be some good competition to make the lineup the next few years. We have so many good lower and middle weights that I'd like to see people move up to create openings if possible. I think little Marsden probably has the lead on Keegan for 184 right now and 285 is wide open. If Derek puts on some good weight, he will probably be favored. If not, then Blake Andrews.

You're losing to OU next year anyway, so what does it matter?

I believe that Andrew Marsden will be our starter at 184 next year and recent tournament results show that he will be a good representative at this weight. As far as Chandler staying at 165 I think that is the best situation for both him and the team. If you talk to a sampling of people about Joe's weight you get diverse answers. Family members have even noted a disparity in what weight he should wrestle. Some believe he is huge for the weight. I am not around Joe but this does not seem to me to be the case. He has great talent and actually looks better when he wrestles up IMO but is this due to attitude or something else. In any event he is talented enough to wrestle where he wants. Chandler and Jacobe are very good wrestlers but I do not think present a challenge to him so either he redshirts or one of the three will most likely sit out next year.

If Joe can stay healthy all offseason 157 is manageable for him but he naturally carries a bunch of muscle and has to be very careful weight lifting. I think it's possible he could grow out of the weight at some point but for next year him being fully healthy is the key to staying at 157.

Chandler does have a hard cut but 165 is the weight for him IMO.
