Fast company: Wisconsin-native Niebrugge's opening round 67 eclipsed Bobby Jones' 88-year old record to set the all-time mark for lowest first round score by an amateur at the Old Course, tying for low round ever shot by an amateur at the British. There have been 29 Opens at the Old Course dating to 1873.

First player in history to shoot 63 at the British Open--OSU's Mark Hayes--in 1977 at Turnberry--still tied for lowest round ever shot at an Open Championship. Tom Watson won the Open that year, defeating Jack Nicklaus in a playoff. Earlier that season Hayes won the Players Championship, the title now held by Rickie Fowler. In 1976 Hayes, a two-time All-American, led the Byron Nelson Classic wire-to-wire.
In 1967 OSU's Bob Dickson became the last player to win the US Amateur and British Amateur in the same year. In 1968 Dickson was awarded the Bob Jones Award--the US Golf Association's highest honor.
