Did anyone else notice that we played 6 out of the 16 teams in the Sweet Sixteen? Our overall record against these teams were 5 wins and 6 losses.
L 11/20/17 Texas A&M
W 12/16/17 Florida State
L 12/29/17 West Virginia
L 1/10/18 Kansas State
L 1/23/18 Texas Tech
W 2/3/18 Kansas
W 2/10/18 West Virginia
L 2/14/18 Kansas State
W 2/21/18 Texas Tech
W 3/3/18 Kansas
L 3/8/18 Kansas
Also, did anyone else count the number of teams we faced who made the tournament? If you add all of these games together, we played 20 games against teams in the tournament (W = 8 and L = 12). I know our RPI was horrible, but they really need to recalculate how it is computed because we still had one of the top 25 hardest schedules in the country (during the regular season).
L 12/09/17 Wichita State
L 1/3/18 OU
W 1/13/18 Texas
W 1/20/18 OU
L 1/27/18 Arkansas
L 1/30/18 TCU
L 2/17/18 TCU
L 2/24/18 Texas
W 3/7/18 OU
I really hope how RPI is calculated gets tweaked before the start of next year's basketball season. In 2011, oSu was the major reason for change to college football and I hope we can also become the catalyst for similar changes for how teams are evaluated for the NCAA tournament going forward.
In addition, I would love to see the NCAA add 8 more teams to the field to bring the total up to 76. This would create play-in games for all automatic qualifying teams who are not ranked in the top 50. In other words, all four teams who are #14, #15, and #16 seeded teams would have play-in games. This would allow these lower seeded teams a warm-up game to workout any butterflies before taking on a #1, #2, or #3 seeded team. I think this would create even more upsets and excite in the tournament. Thoughts?
