A lot of you are pissed off right now and saying that the system is broken and the CFP needs to change from a 4 team playoff to an 8 team playoff. This post is not about whether that line of thinking is right or wrong.
However, I thought I would point out the following....
If the current set up was an 8 team playoff, how many people would have watched the CFP show last night? How much discussion would there be today about the rankings? Answers....not many and not much. No one would care about who was ranked 5-8, because all of those teams would simply be waiting until their season is over to see if they are in or out. The next 3 weeks of games would bring significantly reduced interest and importance.
I think this simple fact will work against increasing the playoff to 8 teams. The current system makes for huge interest and discussion, of college football, through the final 6 weeks of the regular season.
