From the Tulsa World:

Remarkable stat: It is not flattering, but Oklahoma State’s 3-point shooting percentages in its Big 12 games are rather peculiar.

• TCU: 33.3 percent (6-of-18)

• Baylor: 33.3 percent (6-of-18)

• West Virginia: 33.3 percent (4-of-12)

• Oklahoma: 33.3 percent (4-of-12)

• Texas: 33.3 percent (6-of-18)

Ibaka out: Forward Igor Ibaka did not suit up for Oklahoma State Saturday after rolling his ankle in practice.

The junior had a protective boot on his left foot as his teammates warmed up. Ibaka has only played 20 total minutes this season across four games. His best game came a week ago Saturday, when he produced four points and five rebounds in 12 minutes.

Evans gets star treatment: Everyone knew it was coming.

If Jawun Evans’ ability was a secret, it was no longer one after Wednesday’s 42-point outburst against Oklahoma. Texas coach Shaka Smart designed his defense to prevent the freshman point guard from getting the layups he made repeatedly against the Sooners.

Evans was the focal point, and the Longhorns guards put heavy pressure on him and shooting guard Jeff Newberry. Evans faced a heavy dose of traps and double teams.

It meant Texas banked on the hope Evans’ teammates could not do the damage that OSU’s star could inflict.

Texas was right.

Evans set up his teammates all game, but until Oklahoma State began to crawl out of a 23-point deficit, the Cowboys botched things at the other end. Missed layups were the story of the first half, and on one occasion, forward Mitchell Solomon passed up a layup off an Evans dish to kick it out to the corner.

Evans could have had a dozen assists. It’s why Smart only gave his defense a C-plus or B-minus for its effort on Evans, because the freshman did his part in the Cowboys’ 74-69 loss. He finished with 12 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and only two turnovers.

“He scored a lot less than he scored in their last game but he was able to get in the lane and create some shots for other guys,” Smart said.

Shine comes alive: Oklahoma State has been waiting on Tavarius Shine.

The Cowboys waited for Shine to recover from a shoulder injury. He did after missing seven games.

Then they waited for him to contribute, like they had hoped he would after a promising freshman season.

The wait ended Saturday.

After making just two 3-pointers — shooting at a 10-percent clip — in his first nine games, Shine made four 3s in the second half versus the Longhorns. Each one increased the belief Oklahoma State could actually come back, with the last cutting Texas’ lead to 64-60 with 3:18 left.

Shine’s 14 points were a bright spot in a deflating evening.

“Excuse my language, I was a little pissed off with the way I’ve been playing this season,” Shine said. “I feel like I need to do more for my team, not just scoring but I just need to bring a better presence.”
