I hope this doesn't get legs. The precendent this action generates would be as far-reaching as the so-called "nuclear" options.
I agree. While Trump is clearly in over his head and causes many to question whether he can perform his duties as President, the two other branches of government have plenty of powers to restrict, limit, and overcome a President's actions. His unconstitutional "ban" is just one example of how the judicial branch can put a halt to what a President attempts to do very quickly. There is no need for the above action.
One area of concern though is the power that the modern presidency exerts/claims over military action. Unfortunately, there continues to be an erosion of checks on a President's power to commence military action. Both the judicial and legislative branches are to partly blame for this because they have played a role in this erosion. And so when we have a President like Trump who is clearly unstable when it comes to the use of military action, the lack of checks in this area can become very problematic.
Congress needs to reassert its war powers and the judicial branch needs to support such action.
you lost me at "president like trump who is clearly unstable when it comes to use of military action"
obama ramrodding wealth redistribution through scotus in the name of healthcare showed us exactly how dangerous lack of checks and balances can be.
How did I lose you there? This is a man who has no strategy for most of the hot spots in the world right now...who changed his position on Syria in a matter of days...and also who didn't even know which direction a naval fleet was sailing. Rather unstable, not to mention, dangerous.
Obama didn't ramrod anything through the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court exercised its check on the executive branch during the Obama administration. The Obama administration lost often at the Supreme Court. Apparently you didn't agree with the Supreme Court's ruling regarding the individual mandate, however, that doesn't mean there was a lack of checks and balances.
The checks and balances that our Constitution has given us work. They still work today. That is all that is needed in terms of protecting the country against an inept President.
honest to god do you really think for one second trump didn't know where an aircraft carrier was heading?
and no i don't agree with scotuscare
lol, I don't know. He is the one who said something that wasn't true. Either he didn't know or he misspoke. Both are dangerous though when you are dealing with N. Korea. Hence the reason a President should know what he is talking about and choose his words very carefully when it comes to military matters. Not be unstable like Trump is.
because you don't simply misplace carrier groups or misspeak
Just because Trump won more votes in the electoral college
