Other than listening to Kendrick Lamar's DAMN and Wheeler Walker Jr.'s sophomore album early and often throughout the year, I took somewhat of a musical break in 2017 due to various reasons and am catching up on all of the best of/year end lists.

In the past week I've listened to the latest from St. Vincent and King Krule and they were both pretty great. Still on the list are Tyler Childers (a Sturgill found and produced artist), King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard (love me some Australian psych rock but had never heard of this quirkily-named band), and LCD's latest when I can carve out enough time to listen to it uninterrupted.

Anybody looking forward to specific 2018 releases? I'm excited about Ty Segall's upcoming album after listening to My Lady's on Fire last night. He's such a prolific songwriter it's difficult to keep up with all of his releases. Any new Vampire Weekend album is welcomed news to me, but it will be interesting to hear how the band sounds after Rostam Batmanglij's departure/solo debut.

Also
listened to Tony Harding by Sufjan Stevens and while I don't like everything he does, when he's on, nobody can match his songwriting.

Here's to a great musical 2018!

Springsteen solo

Justin Timberlake's new one may something really special.

Should be a new Of Monsters and Men disc this year also.

I caught ol' Wheeler's show back in October here in OKC. The security folks up by the stage had some WTF looks on their face at the first few songs, not really knowing what they were listening to. I bought the new King Krule, need to listen to it. I don't really keep up anymore with future releases, but I'm hoping for a release from The Chromatics; they've got a recorded album that is approaching "Chinese Democracy" levels of delays.

Anymore, if you like to go to live shows like I do, keeping up with future releases of newer bands is the only way to see live music economically.

Out of curiosity, I browsed a Stubhub price for a St. Vincent floor seat and it is $175. HOLY CRAP! Glad I saw her before her latest album came out because I don't think I'll ever be seeing her again at those prices.

I never thought of it like that.
What venue was the St. Vincent show you looked up? Ol' Wheeler was only $20 :)

That's awesome. One of my favorite things to do is put on a Wheeler song and see how long it takes for the other person to realize what is going on. My wife never listens to words so it usually takes her about half the song before she gives me the "WTF? Grow up!" face.

Moore Theatre in Seattle. I saw Ol' Wheeler right after his debut release, and I got my $20 worth and then some!

BTW, for 2017, War On Drugs' record A Deeper Understanding was probably the best record of the year. That or Margo Price's All American Made (two (or too) wildly divergent styles I know).
