13 dead after bar massacre in California.

What the press needs to do is cover this story along with interjections of other shootings for about 10-14 days, so the next unhinged loner can see this is a venue to get back at the world and make a splash. Incredibly sad that these persons feel the need/impulse to destroy so many lives for notoriety and attention.

Do you think they should not cover it? Only for 24 hours? What are you proposing?

They’ll self regulate. It’ll fall out of the news cycle pretty fast because it’s not a sexy gun, motive, political angle etc other than fitting Don Lemming’s Terrorist Profile because he’s “a white guy.”

Just a garden variety mental health issue caused by unnecessary foreign wars. Nobody wants to fix that.

It isn't that the story itself isn't newsworthy. But in reality, there will be 35 other people killed by a similar weapon today, again tomorrow and also the day after tomorrow and those will not receive coverage outside of local news sources.

If 12 people are shot in one incident in Oklahoma, do you want the national news talking heads discussing the election aftermath blah blah? No...you don’t.

Your argument therefore rings hollow.

I don't mind talking the shooting. Cover it. Discuss the victims. Discuss how it happened. I just wish they would say ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about the shooter. That's the notoriety that they crave. For most its the closest thing to 15 minutes of fame they will ever see, and unfortunately, in our narcissistic society, that matters.

Putting things into perspective matters.

Realizing that 35 people are murdered per day in our country and that outside of the local crimes, you will never hear of any of them is perspective.

Been, aix_pert said it better than I did. Basically what I meant. I darn sure don't think it should be covered for weeks though. Since I stated my opinion what is yours? Its an example though of why I typically don't watch the news except for The Five, The fox All-stars and the local dart throwers for weather. Once in a blue moon might listen to Rush for bit but that's it. One of the funny aftermaths of Trump being elected and a good number of my liberal friends unfriending me on FB (which I use to wish friends Happy Birthday, spread the work about lost dogs/dogs that need adoption, forward on the angel birthdays for our deceased soldiers and pass on a few jokes) was they all accused me of being an Alex Jones adherent.......had no idea who the guy was, had never listened to him and only later found out he had something to do with infowars. So tried to listen to him one day and it was awful, lasted about 15-20 minutes and that was that.

There are good newsworthy stories out there, its just easier to not cover them in place of constant bickering, blood, corruption and a host of other less than desirable human traits. Has to take a mental toll on people who watch all the time.

I disagree.

Most mass shooters aren’t doing it for notoriety.

They’re doing it because they are mentally ill/evil that have come up with a grievance that they feel justifies what they do.

I doubt getting on tv is foremost in their mind if it is there at all.

The ones who are doing it for notoriety or to beat someone else score as one degenerate had put it, seem to be the school shooters. Young disturbed radicalized minds. There are so many factors that go into these actions, they are morbidly fascinating to some.
