What needs to change or be tweaked on this team before the Big 12 play starts?

1) better shot selection (NO more contested 3pt shots and this MUST be enforced with Dziagwa)

2) limit the number of players who have the green light to shoot the 3pt shot (NOT N'Guessan or Solomon)

3) run our old offense from last year and not run the Travis Ford offense on every possession (which is mainly ball screens and double screens for shooters)

4) change the defensive pressure into a call that is made at certain points during the game and NOT the main defense that is played 90% of the time (pack the defense into the lane, work on rotations and fundamentals, practice making defenders take more charges, always deny the main 3pt shooters). Or if we want to turn up the pressure at times, we need to work on some half-court traps that fall back into a match-up zone (either a 1-2-2 or 1-3-1 or 2-3)

5) modify the full court press. I don't understand why our full court press (under Underwood and Boynton), only applies pressure on the first pass. This just seems like a waste of energy for the players and puts the team out of position after the first pass for a potential coast-to-coast layup. Again I'm not sure why we put on a full-court press, but once that first pass is made we back away and play defense in the half court. Instead, we should be double teaming the first player who received the pass and force the other team into making a bad decision (i.e.turnover).

Personally, I'd love to see us modify our full court press to the following (when we have N'Guessan in the game). I'd love for Boynton to teach N'Guessan how to be at the top of a press (on the ball) and explain to him the ball cannot under any circumstances be thrown over his head (but remind him he cannot jump). If N'Guessan does this, it will put pressure on the pass just by using his height and length. If the ball is never allowed to be thrown over him (and he is an agile 7ft player), this allows the rest of the defense to play very aggressive. If the rest of the defense does not have to worry about a deep full court pass, then these players can play between the ball and their player. They can even turn their backs to apply added pressure and keep themselves between the ball and the player they are guarding. After the first pass is made, the ball is double-teamed and the closest player to the right releases his man and denies the first pass to the right and the closest player to the left releases his player and denies the first pass to the left. The farthest player back covers the closest player near the middle of the floor or the deepest player (which is more conservative).
