Gundy & Knowles Contract

If you were Gundy, what would you do?

What if the athletic department says the best we can do is $1.5 million and Knowles is offered $2.0 or more at Florida. If you were Gundy, would you make up the difference from your own salary knowing Knowles would probably retire here about the same time you would?

If Gundy retains a great defensive coach at oSu we could finally turn the corner in our program and compete for championships every year. I'm assuming Gundy will eventually get the offense figured out and will need to hire a new offensive coordinator after the season is over.

Gundy must also realize our athletic department budget is nowhere near Alabama, Ohio State, etc and therefore he may have to do some out of the box thinking to retain elite assistant coaches. We just don't have the tradition or the alumni base to compete financially with these universities. However, with his current salary there's a lot of flexibility in what he can do with that money.

China 2022 Olympic boycott

Not a fan. Didn't work back in 1980 or 1984. You're just punishing the athletes and their countries. Don't do it, Joe.

Is There Another TBP Out There Somewhere?

Sure, there aren't a ton of OSU billionaires out there, but there are thousands of grads out there I'm sure who have a seven figure net worth.

Those are who the fundraising department needs to go after - not alums who are middle aged with kids to put through college, or the young getting started, or the retired on fixed incomes. Can't ask these people to send in $500+ every year, in addition to paying thousands in season tickets in football and basketball. Oklahoma just doesn't have a ton of these OSU grads.

Haven't seen this posted here.

At first glance this appears to be a petty ou fan. The funny thing is, he's an OSU season ticket holder (at least last time I checked), and a huge OSU fan. I've known him for a good portion of my life and he's a really funny dude. OU fans are getting ripped for this, and knowing Bill, I think that was the intended reaction. Great troll job by a great OSU fan.

Spencer Sanders = Mr Inconsistent

We are LUCKY to be undefeated, but that has nothing to do with Spencer Sanders. This defense is good enough to win a conference championship. However with Spencer Sanders behind center we will NOT reach our potential.

For those of you that say Shane isn't good enough, he was a true freshman last year and this season he was thrust into the first game of the season without many reps. Imagine if Shane was actually splitting reps, his development would be much further along. Additionally, the coaches resorted back to using the Spencer Sander's playbook after that first series in the first game (which makes no sense since they have completely different skill sets). Shane can throw just about any throw and isn't limited to a deep pass or screen pass like the Spencer Sanders offense.

I've seen enough of Shane to know he is more accurate, actually checks down to 2nd and 3rd receivers, doesn't stare down his primary receiver, has a quick release and doesn't hold the ball too long, makes far better decisions with the football, and actually can throw open a receiver.

Perspective

There is a school to the south that had a head coach that may turn out to be a generational coach. The former coach holds the record for wins at the school but was eased out because management perceived they could lose the generational coach. The new coach won multiple conf championships but not the big enchilada. Recruiting continued to improve to the point that he had a bonkers class coming in this year and an even better class planned for next year. His freshman qb had unlimited ability. Five star wides that did not measure up were casually disposed of. Then something happened to make the coach unhappy, to the point that he simply walked away to another blue blood. Apparently there was nothing the school, rich in tradition and donors, could do to change his mind. I think that we can all agree that this school had more monetary arrows to throw at the problem than we do, all to no effect. I think we need to cut our administration some slack, including Gundy. Knowles reportedly looked at Illinois last year. Illinois? He could have stayed had he wanted to with a nice salary. Instead he choice Ohio State with more money- and its five stars players. That is a real world analysis.

Who Do We Get?

I'm surprised by some of our posters that think that just because someone knows the "schemes" is going to make them as successful as Knowles, or successful at all. The essential talent of Knowles is quick critical thinking and creativity to be able to adjust on the fly. Case in point is Casey Dunn. Does he know the schemes? Yes! But he lacks the critical thinking and creativity to call the best plays and make adjustments. We could very well wind up next year with a defense as good as our offense. And that would be devastating.
