Smith Has to Start

I realize he’s a freshman and very raw. If Monken or Dana were OC then Bowman could most likely thrive because their offenses adapt well to a pocket passer. On the other hand, Gundy’s offense needs a mobile QB. So if we are to run this Dunn/Gundy offense, Bowman can’t play anymore and we need to let Smith be the guy. He is mobile and fast. The RPO is a critical part of Dunn’s scheme. It opens up the running lanes and vision for the RB. Notice how #3 found easier lanes and his vision improved when the threat of Smith running the ball dictated the asu defense. The run will then open up the pass for Smith. He needs reps and will make mistakes, but with his running threat it will open up easier passing routes that give the receivers room to catch and run. They also won’t be getting killed when they catch a pass. Should allow for YAC as they run their routes. Yards after catch should increase significantly.

Put your energy and money into Cowboy Basketball

I have no idea how Steve Lutz’s inaugural season will go, but I’m confident he and his staff will push the players to give it their all and hustle their asses off. Basically the opposite of what we have in football right now.

Season opener for bball is in GIA on Monday night at 8. Hope we have a good crowd and get a W over Gottlieb.

Worst coaching job part 2

Our coaching staff is so bad it isn’t even funny. Here is a take some won’t agree with and I’m fine with it - our talent is better than what is showing.

I’ve seen the comments about talent and recruiting. And perhaps it is down a little bit but if you really believe this is a talent issue answer this:

-why did basically this exact team win 10 games last year?

-why did Ollie Gordon win the Doak Walker last he at and this year struggles to get 50 yards rushing.

-why do we under utilize a WR core that basically was all back and we got a talent in Stribling added to that?

-why have we had similar recruiting rankings year in and year out and this not ever been a problem before?

I’m sorry I just don’t buy that this is a talent issue.

This is a coaching issue. Dunn is a mid to bad OC who thought he could just relax with all the returning starters he had coming back and that Ollie would just repeat what he did and teams wouldn’t be able to stop him. He must of forgot who the oline coach was because that guy has been bad since he stepped foot in Stilly and I’m not sure how he is still employed here except for the fact that he is a Bill Synder guy.

Nardo is just in completely over his head. He is a nice guy who doesn’t hold his players accountable and wants to let them know it will be ok. To be fair to him we hired him to run a 3-4 and we just run some defense that is a cluster and doesn’t have an identity. Our defense is about like what we used to call the Cowboy back position. It never worked.

And the funny thing is we don’t try anything different ever. Somebody else said but I’ve been thinking it and saying it as well - the definition of insanity - do the same thing over and over and expect different results.

Some questions I have:

-why not try Smith at Qb much earlier? Bowman is so afraid in the pocket and he locks in on WR’s and he can’t run. He is a major liability but we keep trotting him out there. My guess is we run him out there against tcu also.

-why does Daniels not get benched? Why do we never play any other LB’s? Ute was hyped up preseason as a guy who reminded some of Martin. He makes plays on special teams. He can’t see the field on defense? Ike? Why do we not try guys who are younger? What do we have to lose at this point?

-love the walk-in program. Love it. We are starting a walkon at safety. Why? I realize some won’t like this take but we just shouldn’t be doing that at this point.

-on paper and preseason our new dline coach was viewed as an upgrade. At this point I’m wondering if we wouldn’t be better off with Greg Richmond? Guys play way to tall and either over run the Qb allowing him to take off for 10-15 yards or they bunch up together and allow the oline to dominate them. Most of the time they engage and can never disengage to make a play.

-but our oline seems to have a problem engaging on running plays.

This is he absolute worst coaching job I’ve seen in a long time. And that’s not earth shattering.

Th fear is we won’t make coaching changes.

The other fear is between decommits and the portal How bad is the ship gonna sink?

Period 1:
DT in red & Sadulaev in blue. Sadulaev looking much trimmer. His singlet is even loose in the chest & under the arms. Here we go! Tying up & circling, Sadulaev snaps, nothing & back to the tie up. DT drops in on a leg, Sadulaev defending & gets away, back to neutral. Circling, tying up. Passivity warning Sadulaev, restart. DT shoots, Sadulaev threatening with a chest wrap & sprawls back. Sadulaev spins around, comes behind & gets a TD, 2-0, no turns, restart. Tying up, Sadulaev snaps, nothing. Circling & hand fighting, Sadulaev snaps & comes behind quickly for another TD, 4-0, looking for a turn, but no luck, restart, 3:46 left. Circling & tying up & pushing in the center & that's how the period ends. 4-0 Sadulaev

Period 2:
Kennedy & someone I don't recognize in DT's corner. Back to action. DT shoots, Sadulaev sprawls, stalemate, restart. Tying up DT pushing forward a little, then they're back to center. Sadulaev snaps, DT sprawls back & they're back to center. DT shoots, Sadulaev gets a chest lock & is trying to come behind for another TD, but takes DT out of bounds, 5-0, restart. DT shoots off the whistle, gets a leg, but Sadulaevu sprawls back & it's a stalemate. DT back in on a leg off the whistle, Sadulaev counters, they're scrambling & Sadulaev gets the TD, 7-0, restart. 1:25 left. Circling, DT shoots, nothing, DT shoots again, gets a leg, but Sadulaev sprawls back for a stalemate, restart. DT shoots again off the whistle, Sadulaev sprawls & it's another stalemate, restart. 42-sec left. Tying up, DT reaches for a leg, nothing. Sadulaev locked over the head & it's another stalemate. DT shoots again off the whistle, Sadulaev with another sprawl, and another stalemate, restart, 14-sec left & that's how it ends. Sadulaev was in control of the entire match. DT got to his legs, but couldn't do much else from there.
