The number of people on food stamps in our country. That's over 14% of our population.

Results, baby!

It's good to see it moving in a positive direction, but there is still a LONG way to go. From the WSJ piece:

"Some 14.8% of the U.S. population is on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, down from 15.3% last August, U.S. Department of Agriculture data show.
Food-stamp use remains high, historically speaking. The share of Americans on the benefit—which lets them buy basics like cereal and meat and treats like cookies, but not tobacco, alcohol or pet food—is above the 8% to 11% that prevailed before the financial crisis."

To get to 8%, the number on food stamps would need to decline by another ~ 21MM.

Any decline in the SNAP program will be offset with the next surge in illegals crossing our borders.

Only the innumerate wouldn't get some kind of satisfaction from over a million and a half people getting off of food stamps.

The Sheep and the Goats
31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

I totally missed the part in the Bible where Jesus forced people to participate in government programs under threat of their financial resources being confiscated and people who refused to participate being sent to federal prison.

Wasn't Jesus more of a voluntary participation kind of guy?

And whatever happened to separation of church and state?

I would suggest Mark 12:17. The Pharisees, like you, hated paying taxes and like you, considered themselves victims because they had to spend money on taxes. So they tried to trick Jesus into telling them something that would either get him in trouble, or tell them what they wanted to hear. Jesus told them to pay their taxes.

I don't hate paying taxes. You have zero basis for making that statement.

Wasn't it not too long ago that you referred to God as a "ghost"? And now you're throwing scripture around like you're a Bible thumper? What's that all about?

Where's the inconsistency? The bible tells us the one tre god(s) are a ghost, and expressly labels one of them as a "Holy Ghost." Where's the contradiction?

Re the tax hate: There is just no way you can truthfully represent to have read the words of jesus and portray him as anti-tax. He said to pay them, the important things were spiritual, anyhow. You just in this very thread characterized taxation as compulsory, going to prison, etc. WTF do you mean I have no basis for saying you hate taxes?

How is compulsory taxation, going to prison, etc. untrue? And how does that equate to hating to pay taxes?

Again, you have no basis for assuming that I hate to pay taxes.
